Billie Eilish’s Mom Deserves More Credit Than She's Given for Her Success

A lot is made about the incredible sibling chemistry that exists between Billie Eilish and her older brother Finneas.

After all, they have independently wrote and produced all of her music and the large bulk of it while Finneas was still a teenager and Billie barely was a teen.

But there’s another unsung member of their family who deserves some credit for the entire operation, their mom Maggie Baird. It was Maggie who first taught both of them the ins and outs of songwriting in a 10-week songwriting class she ran.

"I always say it was actually the Beatles who taught them to write songs," the ever-humble mom tells Variety. "Because the class was for kids, I had to simplify it: 'Here's 'I Want to Hold Your Hand,' let’s give these pieces of the song a name.' The class was just an hour a week for 10 weeks or so — but Finneas was like [mimes 'Eureka!' moment], and in a few months he formed a band. All I had to teach him was the basics, and he immediately got it and the same with Billie."

Billie’s latest “all the good girls go to hell” is out now.
