Simon Cowell Calls 'The Voice' an' X Factor' Copycat
"If you try and rip somebody off it always looks like a bad copy," he tells BBC
(WENN) - Simon Cowell has accused bosses behind TV talent show The Voice of ripping off his hit series The X Factor.
The music mogul was the brains behind the singing contest, which achieves huge ratings both in the U.K. and the U.S., and has boasted superstar judges including Kelly Rowland, Nicole Scherzinger and new panelist Britney Spears.
The Voice launched in the U.K. earlier this year and was in the same time slot as Cowells other hit show, Britains Got Talent - but the TV titan is convinced his new rival is just a poor copy of his own creations.
He tells BBC Radio 4, "That show (The Voice) puzzles me because it starts off and its all about the voice. So my first thought is, Why isnt this on radio? because whats the point in looking at them. Then suddenly Im watching it a week or two weeks ago and its the same as The X Factor. Theyve got dancers behind them, graphics, lights. Same show.
"I see a lot of shows trying to rip us off. If you try and rip somebody off it always looks like a bad copy."
